And then there was KanyaKumari

Kanyakumari is a very poetic idea. A Kanya is waiting eternally for her Shiva, who never came and therefore remained Kumari.

The whole place has a sense of incompleteness and therefore is "incomplete beautiful" like god idols of Jagganthpuri. We went to Kanyakumari to see a Sunrise and a Sunset and both visions remained incomplete due to Clouds. I wanted to see the southernmost tip of India, stand there and face the whole nation but all the constructions have marred the beauty and what remained of the tip does not give you sense of magnificance. I made Manjiri stand at the Tip as was seen there and photographed her.

The poetic idea of Kanyakumari waiting for her Shiva doesnot end there. The Kanya commonly known as Kumari Amman, when realised that her Shiva is not to come threw away all her Pooja material and it got scattered in all the three seas available at the tip of India. Even today the waves from sea of Bay of Banagal brings Red Sand indicating "Kunkum", the waves of Indian Ocean at southern side brings out White Sand indicating " Akshata", the rice grains and the waves of Arebian sea on West brings out Yellow sand indicating "Haladi "( termeric). A kanyakumari is waiting and her Pooja material is brought back by sea with each of its waves is very poetic.

Swami Vivekanada, when visited the sight in 1920 must be thrilled. He swam to the Rock on southern side and meditated. The rock now bears Vivekanada Rock Memorial. A new Staue of Poet " Thiruvalluvar is a new attraction. A boat ride to Vivekananda Rock memorial adds spice to you Kanyakumari visit.

Back Waters - God's own Country

A real Stress remover. The endless stretch of the Lake. Calm, quiet filled with strange peace that fills your soul.

We started our journey through the back Waters of kerala at Kumarkom. Had an amazing holiday experience that is Kerala's very own.

I always wanted something extra. Something more than what should be sufficeient. May be a four hours of Boat Cruise could suffice, can give you an idea what the back Waters is. But I chose the exclusive option.

A house Boat exclusively for two of us. Travel thrugh the night in the boat. House boat equipped with Boat Captain, his assitant and a cook to feed you fish varieties. An Airconditioned Bed Room.

Our Boat left Kumarkom at 1230 Hrs and returned back to Kumarkom at 0930 Hrs next day. Alas, however you may wish, the actual boat journey is just about six hours. Boat stops at 1430 for food. Of course, a fry fish meal. Enjoy, relax. There is no hurry for anything. No destination to be reached. Boat Captain suggests a post lunch siesta and retires to his room.

Journey lazilily starts at 1600 hrs and the stops again at 1800 hrs at Sunset.

Boating is not permitted between 1800 hrs till 0730 hrs to permit fisherman to lay and remove their nets. Boat starts again in the morning and returns to Kumarkom by 0930.

In the evening boat was parked near some village. We had one and half hours stroll through the village and enjoyed all the attention. With that long walk we were again ready for our dinner in the boat. This time it was chicken and King prawns - ( Lobsters) . Boat was equipped with TV but we opted to listen to music through our Marathi CDs, Sudhir Phadake, Bhimsen,
Arun datey and what not.

What you enjoy is quiet travel. All green sceneary on both sides. Green and Green evrywhere. Lots and Lots of Coconut trees. The green and quiet has soothing effect.

A best journey for second or nth Honeymoon.

Also a best family journey with two bed room House Boat.

Sunset I did not see

I have been waiting all my life to see Kanyakumari. The idea of standing on a tip of land and face the entire nation used to appeal me. I heard so much about the Sunset at kanyakumari on full Moon Day. Kanyakumari - the southern tip of India surrounded by three Seas, Arebian Sea on West, Indian Ocean on South and bay of Bengal on your east. I have always imagined the wonderful sight of the Sun setting in West and Full Moon rising on East both at the same time.

And as things happened in life it was an anti climax when I actually visited Kanyakumari on 20.09.2006. The Sky was full of clouds and I have recorded the Sunset, I did not see.

Now, I know that the scenario I imagined is possible only twice in a year. The Full Moon after 23rd Sept and after 21st April, when Day and Night are of equal hours, this phenomena is possible and I still longed to be at Kanyakumari on one of these days.
